High potential and gifted education

At Temora Public School, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

High potential and gifted education opportunities at TPS

Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom
  • In-class differentiation and extension - strategies designed to meet the learning needs of all students, particularly those identified as gifted or high potential.
  • Aurora College - providing tailored and targeted advanced learning opportunities for students.
  • Maths Olympiad - an extension program to challene complex and creative mathematical problems.
Across our school
  • Student Representative Council - leaders who represent their peers on important school matters.
  • Grip Leadership - focusing on teamwork, communication and problem-solving.
  • The Resilience Project - a focus on building emotional resilience and mental well-being among students through Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness (GEM).
  • Performance Night - an annual celebration of student talent and creativity on stage.
    Student voice - students are encouraged to share their perspectives with leadership groups, empowering them to influence positive change within the school.
  • Debating - student compete against other shools to gain experience in a competitive environment.
  • Chess - available during break times to practice for regional competitions.
  • Riverina Dance Team - an opportunity for students to perform on a larger stage. Participating in regional and state levels.
  • Young Regional Conservatorium - facilitating classes in woodwind, percussion, choir and junior and senior bands.
  • Drumbeat and Temora Targeted Early Intervention Programs - fostering strong community connections beyond the school gates.
  • Community connections - TPS leaders play an active role in various community events, showcasing leadership skills and commitment to making a positive impact.
Across NSW
  • Halogen Leaders Conference - motivating young leaders and understanding qualities of an effective leader.
  • Public Speaking - competitions on local and state levels.
  • Representation in a wide range of sports, with a strong focus on Primary Schools Sports Association (PSSA) trial and knockout competitions.
  • Inclusive multi-sports programs including Boccia, Ten Pin Bowling and multi-sports days.
  • Premier's Sporting Challenge - lead by Year 6 students, is an exciting program for all students that promotes physical activity, teamwork, and leadership skills.
